North Region winter weather updates

UPDATE: Jan. 26, 2026 at 10:55 a.m.:

In Franklin County, SR-247 has been treated with salt. A truck with de-icer is en route to treat bridges. SR-243 is reportedly in mostly good condition, but beware minor ice patches.

Crews continue to treat isolated roadway and bridge ice sheets.

Limestone/Morgan

Most roadways and bridges are clear and dry. District will resume normal operations.

Madison/Cullman/Marshall/Jackson/Dekalb/Cherokee/Etowah

Most roadways are dry. Crews are treating and monitoring problem areas in all districts. Maintenance crews will be staffed throughout day to monitor conditions and treat any road-related issues.

In Jackson County, ALDOT crews are treating SR-79 from Skyline to the state line, where snowfall is reportedly freezing to the pavement.

UPDATE: Jan. 25, 2026 at 5:18 p.m.

Due to light rain and decreasing temperatures leading to icing, ALDOT is concluding pretreatment operations in Lauderdale and Colbert counties.at Monte Sano

ALDOT crews have treated bridges on SR-24 in Franklin County, bridges on US-43 in Russellville, and pretreated outside lanes of SR-24 from Lawrence County line to Red Bay and US-43 from Russellville to Phil Campbell.

UPDATE: Jan. 25, 2026 at 4:24 p.m.

ALDOT tankers have completed pretreatment of I-65 in northern Cullman, Morgan, and Limestone Counties and I-565 in Limestone County. Pretreatment of US-72 in Limestone County and US-231 in Morgan County is ongoing. US-31 and the Hudson Memorial Bridge over the Tennessee River will also be pretreated.

In Franklin County, the bridge on SR-247 over Cedar Creek, north of Red Bay, is reported to be slick.

Motorists are reminded that the official construction detour for SR-243, south of Russellville in Franklin County, is as follows: US-43 from Russellville to SR-13 at Spruce Pine to SR-195 in Haleyville for southbound traffic, and vice versa for northbound traffic.

UPDATE: Jan. 25, 2026 at 3:15 p.m.

ALDOT reports ice on SR-24 at SR-19 in Red Bay in Franklin County, along with slick spots on other bridges in the Red Bay area.

UPDATE: Jan. 25, 2026 at 8:23 a.m.

Overnight, ALDOT crews responded to treat a slick spot on SR-117 in DeKalb County and to a report of a tree down on SR-133 in Lauderdale County. This morning crews are responding to two fallen trees on SR-20 in northwestern Lauderdale County.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 8:40 p.m.

ALDOT is responding to treat bridges on SR-24 in Franklin County.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 6:29 p.m.

ALDOT is responding to treat ice on the US-43 bridge over Cedar Creek in Franklin County.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 6:22 p.m.

Though currently all state routes are open with no issues reported, ALDOT crews will be treating and monitoring potential icy areas, particularly on bridges and mountainsides, in Madison, Jackson, and DeKalb counties throughout the night.

ALDOT crews continue to treat and plow in Lauderdale and Colbert counties. Temperatures in far northwest Alabama remain below freezing, and additional ice accumulation is possible.

ALDOT crews are treating SR-207 in Lauderdale County

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 11:44 a.m.

Mainline of Memorial Parkway (US-231) is closed. The elevated part of I-565 is one lane open each direction

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 10:34 a.m.

Morgan County – All lanes on US-231 on Brindlee Mountain are open.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 10:04 a.m.

Madison County – all elevated sections on Memorial parkway are closed due to ice. Crews are working in the area now.

Morgan County – crews are on site working on bridges on US-231 on Brindlee Mountain. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office advised that the road was closed at 8:45 a.m.

UPDATE: Jan. 24, 2026 at 7:45 a.m.

ALDOT crews began spreading salt early this morning as a winter storm entered the state.

Treatment operations started shortly after 3 a.m. in northwestern Lauderdale County. About an hour later, crews began spreading salt and de-icing chemicals in Limestone County, particularly on I-65 and I-565.

Crews are also working in Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Morgan, Cullman, Madison, and Marshall counties. Crews remained on standby in DeKalb, Jackson, Etowah, and Cherokee counties.
