District 42 maintains the highways and state routes in Calhoun County in and around Anniston.

ALDOT’s Anniston District continues to serve Calhoun County with a team-centered focus to keep motorists moving.

ALDOT removed this fallen, icy tree from SR-20 in Lauderdale County near the Tennessee state line.

In addition to the danger of icy pavements, icy trees may fall into roadways, further impacting travel in northwest Alabama.

With temperatures dropping drastically, ALDOT warns of the potential for extended and widespread icing and advises motorists to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

ALDOT plows loose ice from US-43 near the Tennessee state line in Lauderdale County on Saturday, Jan. 24. Ice that forms on wet pavements as temperatures drop may be much more difficult to remove.

Plummeting temperatures across North Alabama will pose a significant and widespread threat of icy roads this afternoon and throughout the night. The threat may extend into Tuesday for many northern counties, where temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing Monday.

The Auburn District is pretreating bridges with potassium acetate, and intersections/steep grades with calcium magnesium acetate and sand/CMA mixture where needed.

They will start with Randolph County and work their way back into South Chambers and Lee Counties as the evening progresses.
